Montreal Place des Arts

The Montreal Place des Arts (PdA), is situated in the center of Quartier des Spectacles.

PdA consists of five Theaters, for a total efficiency of 8,000 seats, including the new address of the Montreal Symphonique Orchestra.

This unique location hosts a wide variety of innovative artistic activities all year round, such as jazz, dance, theatre performances, opera, classical music, comedy, popular music, and also the circus.

The Place des Arts Montreal is definitely the most important home to Montreal’s five very popular theatres: the Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier, Jean-Duceppe, Maisonneuve, the Studio, along with the Cinquieme Salle Theaters.

Near Downtown Montreal, the PdA hosts the famous Montreal Symphony Orchestra (OSM), the fantastic Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, and the popular Opera de Montreal.

Montreal Place des Arts had been open since the nineteen-sixties. Since that time, the PdA has the well deserved the status of being the best site in which to enjoy opera, classical music, and ballet.

The PdA also includes a complete selection of additional activities within Montreal city.

Montreal Place des Arts embraces the newest live concert areas. L’Adresse symphonique is not on the map.

Montreal Place des Arts will celebrate its 50th anniversary in three years, and she is getting a makeover for the occasion.

The Grand Foyer Culturel is the first phase of its modernization, and is on track to be completed after two years of work. It will be inaugurated by the end of the year. Montrealers are bound to fall in love with these new places.

One million cultural enthusiasts attend Place des Arts each year. Within weeks, their relationship with this flagship downtown place has completely changed.

The work will make way for modern interiors that will facilitate the reception of viewers, offering them a lively and pleasant place, both day and night.

There you may have a glass of wine, enjoy good food, or visit an exposure while waiting to catch a show.

“The lobby of Place des Arts looks like a subway corridor, there will be skylights, lots of skylights.”

The entrance to the Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier boasts a beautiful canopy ceiling with metal panels, illuminated Plexiglas, and a programmable computer.

The first set of glass doors were destroyed in order to give more breadth to this entry from the Great Hall of the cultural edifice.

Leaving from the central area at Wilfrid-Pelletier, there will be no additional stairs discouraging those people with disabilities, but rather a gently sloping driveway.

The wall is covered with a huge multimedia panel, a mosaic of 52 screens that will broadcast images, music, and digital works. Moreover, since the entry of Wilfrid-Pelletier, one can see for the first time Sainte-Catherine Street in the background.

Instead of the old ticket office, a showroom will be open all year. It will act to present activities during the Days of Culture.

The entrance to the Salle 5 is also very beautiful. It will be recognized for its five huge painted ceilings, along with its doors and floor.

On the side wall of the entrance, you will see a work of bar codes with optical games. Images related to the performing arts will be placed behind these codes.

The first line of wooden doors in the entry halls of Maisonneuve and Duceppe were destroyed, keeping only the columns. In addition, a staircase at the crossroads of three skylights was created.

The show will be presented at the poster on a digital screen. No more paper! Hello light and bright screens.

All programming and digital light will be activated from a control that will run all multimedia displays and architectural lighting. Security will also be larger. “While Montreal Place des Arts will be more accessible, it will be more controlled as well.”

The food supply of Place des Arts will reflect the image of an international city. In addition to Van Houtte, the new bar and restaurant, Seingalt, reopened in a larger space and is now more beautiful with its location next to Wilfrid-Pelletier.

A new wine bar and restaurant with 120 seats, Deschamps Place, will open near the sculpture of Peter Granche.

Many passers-by strolling Sainte-Catherine Street West, at the entrance of Complexe Desjardins, wondered what this metal structure was that has been previously located at the old entrance to the Place des Arts. This is the new entrance canopy.

You can get on this marquee, where you can admire the Saint-Catherine Street to the east and to the west.

This is a gazebo built with stairs of exotic wood from Brazil. Tourists and lovers can come and be photographed on this point-like prow of a ship, just as in the movie Titanic!

The entrance to the Montreal Place des Arts will look like a great long illuminated tunnel.

The Marquise will overlook a giant LED screen on the left and inscribed, “Place des Arts” with pellets of light on the right.

It may also approach the PdA by St. Urbain Street with two staircases, a monument to be mounted on the Esplanade located at the former outlet of its underground parking and another being built next to the address Symphony.
