Montreal Canada Weather
Montreal Canada Weather – Montrealers are very fascinated by the weather, not only by storms or major weather occurrences, but the weather is also a good topic to start a conversation.
How is the temperature? Is it hot in Montreal?
Temperature changes a lot depending on the season, and often even in the same month one day to the next.
Whether you prefer to learn the different situations, or you simply want to know what happens tomorrow, Environment Canada can certainly help you in your search.
It will provide you with tools to better understand your topic of interest and inform you about the historical weather.
The 20th century was marked by several significant weather events.
January marks the peak of winter in Canada. When winters begin in mid-November and continue until late March, normally early April is cold, but certainly not as cold as some might believe.
The average winter temperature is around -10C (14F) but there times that it falls to -30C (-22F) on (which is increasingly rare). The months of January and February are the coldest weather months.
During Spring, the temperature is cool in the early morning and evening (near freezing), but around 15C (54F) later in the afternoon. For May and June you will notice warming temperatures.
What makes it difficult is choosing the correct clothing. It is necessary to dress warmly in the morning, but you have to remove the “layers” in the afternoon when it warms up!
Autumns that begin late August through September, October and November are similar: cool in the morning and evening, warmer in the afternoon.
For the summers months, June and July are hot and normally humid with an average temperature of 20C (67F) up to 35C (90F) and 45C with the the humidity factor.
To reflect the scarcity of information about the climate of the early century, and to avoid giving too much weight to extreme climate events that occurred in the last 20-30 years, up to two or three weather events per decade were selected and can be found on other pages through the links below.
December could become the hottest story in the Montreal city area. Mild weather in December sets the tone for the rest of the winter.
Local Montreal Canada Weather – The information is gathered at Montreal International Airport, Pierre Elliott Trudeau situated 15 miles West of Montreal downtown. The Montreal city region carries a damp continental environment with significant energy amplitude.
From 1970 to 2000, the average yearly temperature was 43.16 °F.
The hottest month is definitely July, having an average temp of 69.62 °F. Additionally, the coldest month is January, with the median of 13.64 °F.
Montreal Canada Weather – Montreal has got an average of 8 days every year at over 86 °F, and seventeen days under -4 °F.
The coldest temperature at any time documented is -36.04 °F, January 15, 1957; the maximum was 99.68 °F, August 1, 1975.
For the same period, Montreal has experienced more than 38 inches of precipitation annually, a bit more than 30 inches as precipitation and over 85 in as snowfall.
Normally, the first snowfalls are during December, and the melting of the coverage of snow will occur until April. Often it takes until the beginning of May, for a grand total of around five months of winter snow storms.
The rainiest period in Montreal is November. For example, in 1996 we got more than 3.7 inches of rain reported in just one day.
And the biggest snowfall of Montreal history in a single day occurred on March 4, 1971, for a precipitation of more than 17 inches for 24 hours, making it most well-known storm of the last hundred years.
During December 1969, the metropolis observed its most significant snowstorm with almost 28 inches within a couple of days. The most significant snow cover was recorded on March 12, 1971 with more than 40 inches.
History about Montreal Canada Weather
“Seven degrees warmer, it’s a world of difference,” says David Phillips, a climatologist at Environment Canada. “It is even in the race to beat the 2001 record, while the average for the month was -0.4 degree.”
A glance at the temperatures recorded since the beginning of December 2011 in Montreal shows us that the winter is slow to install.
According to the last 100 years’ averages, the temperature should change about 2 °F between June 1 and December 14. However, the new average temperature change for these months is at 3.3 degrees.
David Phillips predicts a milder winter than average. “It should be warmer than normal for the Montreal region,” said the weather specialist. “By cons, in the eastern province, temperatures will be more normal.”
Moreover, for Montreal, the month of December has been warmer for the last 26 consecutive months, where it has been experiencing warmer than normal temperatures.
Montreal Canada Weather – “It takes me a lot to be amazed from the weather, but what we see about weather is amazing,” Phillips said . “It becomes like a lottery to find out what month is going to stop the movie. The bets are open. “
Another observation: the passage of currents of cold water La Niña appears to have less impact on the temperature since the late 1980s.
Normally, this phenomenon, which involves the passage of water colder than normal in eastern and central Pacific, gives colder winters.
“It’s a surprising announcement that we are having a milder winter, because we are in a La Niña year,” says Phillips. “It is as if its passage had the same impact as before.”
Among the factors that partly explain this change, he noted the melting of the ice caps and global warming.
