Literature Festival of Montreal

The Literature Festival help to make literature accessible to the everyone, I think it should not hesitate to desecrate but without the belittling.

And this is what the past seventeen years as an event WIRE offering both avid readers and readers of tomorrow – and regardless of their age, origin or their bank account!

A unique opportunity to rediscover known authors and discover new ones, and in forms constantly reinvented and original.

Over the years, we have been able to prove that when it comes to literature, the public is now waiting for you.

A curious public, ready to go on an adventure with the creators of all disciplines that allow marriages boldest.

The next Montreal International Festival of Literature will be part of the new season in Montreal, an initiative of a group of associations, organizations and literary events established to promote the reading.

It was quite natural that the Festival to be associated with this initiative since the promotion of books, literature and reading is our main purpose.

And I like the idea that this season is in Montreal…

Together, perhaps we will succeed and prove to all those who still doubt that literature can also increase the visibility of Montreal, as well as the laughter, jazz, song or circus festival.

When in 2005, UNESCO awarded the title of our city “Montreal World Book Capital”, we all felt a real pride.

It seems that since then, little effort has been made to ensure that Montreal keeps title of “the city of the literature in this country,” which title it right yet with all the writers and editors who live there and all montreal libraries that have a storefront.

Around the world, there are literary events that are the pride of their city.

Just think of it of Bertrand Delanoë, Mayor of Paris, which led to the birth of “Paris in full” in 2009, a festival that continues to enthusiastically support, or to
Régis Labeaume Mayor of Quebec, which has, with major investments, the creation of the House of Literature Festival and “Quebec in words.”

You can also give the example of Toulouse with his “Marathon of words” or one of Brussels’ Passa Porta “and many others …

Yes, I think Montreal can and should become the capital of French literature, this would help to make the major cultural metropolis we all dream of.

The International Literature Festival is the only annual literary festival in Montreal French language, both multidisciplinary character, nationally and internationally.

Both producer and broadcaster of literary events, the festival has at each of its editions, original programming and daring, whose excellence is quite comparable to that offered the best festivals in Montreal theater, dance or music.

The Wire was created by the Union of writers and writers in Quebec (UNEQ) in 1994, at a time when there was little literary events in Montreal.

After celebrating ten years of existence of the festival, UNEQ decided it was time that the festival has its own structure and it was better that it takes place in September, becoming the first event of the literary season.

Nearly 3,000 writers and artists of all disciplines participated during the last fifteen years, this celebration of words where literature is staging, music, movement and images.

Montreal became a reference in the creation of literary events, which brings together some twenty French festivals literary and whose objective is the circulation and / or co-production of literary events in the years to come.

The International Festival of Literature is celebrating its 18 years of existence.

Feast of words for all audiences but also a place of creation, reflection and experimentation for many writers and other artists from other disciplines, the Festival is now one of the major festivals that shape the cultural life of Montreal.

He became undoubtedly a major literary event in Montreal for the quality and originality of its programming, the welcome given to it by the media and by national and international reputation.
