In 1996, the Montreal Nuit Blanche sur Tableau Noir Festival (White Night on Black Board Festival) was born somewhere on the Avenue du Mont-Royal, and with it the idea for an artistic event concerning the general public appeared.

Addressing the need to have a popular form of expression for artists, this event is the first of its kind to take place in the world of visual arts.

Combine a neighborhood with the Perfect Street, people, merchants, and artists who want to have fun and you get the perfect cocktail.

The result was a fantastic Montreal Nuit Blanche sur Tableau Noir Festival!

Initially combined with the “sidewalk sale” of the early summer on the Avenue du Mont-Royal, the Nuit Blanche sur Tableau Noir Festival (NBTN) has quickly distinguished itself from traditional promotional events to become the event itself.

With a record attendance of more than 900,000 visitors in 2011, it is certainly clear that the event is appreciated!

Deployed over two and half kilometers and developed around a theme, are free outdoor performances.

Montreal Nuit Blanche sur Tableau Noir Festival, which attracts hundreds of thousands of people each year, has concocted a bold and festive program, where artists emerge from their usual surroundings to invest in the street and public involvement.

Held in June on Mont-Royal, the 2012 edition of the Nuit Blanche sur Tableau Noir Festival will have hundreds of activities including Underground Arts organized around a central theme:

I love my neighbor.

Among these activities is the musical component, which will include many artists appearing throughout the four days on the new stage at Place Gerald-Godin, located just a few steps away from the metro Mont-Royal.

The organizers have also established a large collaborative project designed by five designers that will take the form of an installation, which will be based on a certain number of unusual short stories written by citizens about their neighbors.

It is already possible to get to the Place Gerald-Godin to deposit your testimony. The deposition testimony will be read at the companions of the park-de-Saint-Laurent (Avenue Mont-Royal, between Bordeaux and Cartier).

In addition, the Stop event returns this year, as great poets will read in an intimate space located at the corner streets of Mount Royal and Henri-Julien Street.

On the subject of poetry, writer and columnist John Beard will also be part of the 2012 event at the corner of Mount Royal and Resther.

Beard will participate in a rally featuring poets reading poems by Gerald Godin.

Also returning is the event named “The Great Fresco Night,” during which 44 artists will make up the street. This event appears nightly from Friday to Saturday from 22h.

Toddlers will not be forgotten with the Children’s Nuit Blanche sur Tableau Noir Festival, which offers a series of creative activities designed just for them.

They will have their own creative space on the asphalt in the Montreal Park of the Companions of Saint-Laurent, corner of Cartier.

Everyone is invited to celebrate the arrival of summer at Mont-Royal Avenue during the Nuit Blanche sur Tableau Noir Festival and enjoy the many terraces and trade shows that take place during the happening.
